Who I work with

My clients are self-identified girls from a range of cultural backgrounds and intersecting identities.

The girls I see in my practice are smart, creative, out-spoken and often, hilarious. They expect a lot from themselves in all areas of their lives - usually too much. And they are aware of what the world expects from them as well. You should be pretty, but not too pretty. You should be smart but not too smart. You should be ambitious, but not too ambitious.

These girls are also growing up in the midsts of a pandemic, during the #metoo movement which for them can be both empowering and scary as they try to reconcile sexuality, consent and personal safety.

So in the face of all this, they've gotten good at stuffing their feelings or shutting down to get through. It's a natural response, but long-term the worry, trauma and stress only builds until its leaking into family and peer relationships, school performance and sense of self.

There's a lot to figure out and for these girls, therapy can be a game changer. I’m here to support girls grow in their power and have the tools to move forward as it evolves.
How I work
Using a feminist approach, I collaborate with the girls I work with to identify and elevate their strengths, cultivate resilience and work toward their own goals. But before any of this, I take great care in building rapport and developing a therapeutic alliance so that they feel safe enough to explore their experiences.

Working from a feminist lens also means looking at the social, cultural and political context (why they might be feeling the way you do) and identifying ways to navigate that context (i.e. their world). Meanwhile, I use a whole host of out-of-the-box, and evidenced-based practices to help my clients get where they want to be from using art-making to support expression and playlists to help mood, to identifying necessary behavioral changes and developing plans to implement those changes.

While some of the clients I work with focus on shorter-term work, most of my tween and teen client's stay long term to continue deeper level work as they grow and develop.

Either way, I'm here to help.
